Light Up La Grange
Light Up Lagrange 2011 from Curtis Edwards on Vimeo.
An Old Fashioned Holiday Extravaganza on Main Street in downtown La Grange, this event is held on the first Friday evening every December. Santa Claus and the Mayor arrive to start the festivities by lighting up the town at 6:00 pm. Activities include carolers, dancing/musical entertainment, shopping and dining.
La Grange, a historical 200-year-old town, is one of the only three towns in the country that has a working railroad that runs right down the middle of Main Street. Main Street is filled with beautiful and unique shops, galleries and restaurants all open for your enjoyment during this exciting celebration.
Start your Christmas shopping here where you will find anything from toys to evening gowns, galleries filled with fine art by local artists, sporting goods, home furnishings, fresh and silk flowers and an old fashion corner bookstore. Dine at one of our restaurants which include: The Irish Rover Too, a traditional Irish Pub; Big Rs BBQ Shack, home of award winning ribs; Serendipity Cafe and Gift shop; Red Pepper Deli and Cafe and finish it off with ice cream or candy at Serendipity Ice Cream Station. Top it off with a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate at Karen’s Book Barn & Java Stop.
Entertainment promises to be nothing but spectacular with local school and church groups, jazz ensembles, violinists, carolers and more. The Theme is the Legends of Christmas. We have also organized a Scavenger Hunt where a basket of special items from the local merchants will be awarded. Check in at Laser Technology to get your book and join in the hunt for the various Legends.
This year (2011), the History Center will hold a Grinch Christmas on Friday evening and on Saturday. The Community Center also has activities on Friday evening, including face painting, games and caroling. See our calendar to stay updated on all the activities this town has to offer.
If you would like to make it a weekend experience, we have the beautiful Bluegrass Country Estate Bed and Breakfast and the Pillow and Paddock beds & breakfasts are located just minutes from the historic downtown!
